Q) Who has to comply with the state mandated testing program?
A) All California based fleet owners (businesses) with two or more diesel vehicles weighing 6,000 pounds or more. Exceptions are vehicles with engines 4 years old and newer, and vehicles used for personal use. Q) How often do the vehicles have to be tested? A) Once a year
Q) Are the test results reported to the ARB by electronic means like the smog test?
A) No, all test results are recorded on paper and you have to keep the tests for two years.
Q) In what year did the program start?
A) July 1, 1998
Q) Is this a CHP program?
A) No, you may or may not get correct information from the CHP.
Q) What happens if my vehicle does not pass? A) You have to repair the vehicle and have it tested again. Most vehicles that are in good shape pass the first time.
Q) What type of machine do you use to test the vehicles? A) We use the same machine that the state uses, made by Red Mountain Engineering in California.
